Make yourself relax
Perhaps the main reason for my troubles with motivation is that I get tired. I'm terribly tired. Someone might think that after a vacation you feel well rested, but when you ride a mountain bike for a long time, you explore the cities on foot, have fun on the beach, and generally behave more actively than at home, you get very tired. And this exhaustion makes it difficult to find motivation.
My recipe: at least a few days, or maybe a week, try to relax as much as possible. Try to take a nap during the day, sleep longer in the morning, and do not strain for a while. This does not mean that you do not need to do anything, but rest should be a top priority in the first days after a long break or vacation.
Find a target
If I don’t have enough motivation, it’s usually because I don’t have any moving goal that awakens my desire for work. There is no reason to pull yourself together.
My recipe: to find some activity that will help other people that will change their lives in a meaningful way. Ponder this change, these people. If I feel their suffering or see how they come to a standstill, I feel motivated to help them.
And we are all like that. We all want to help others, even if most of the time we are prone to egoism. Take advantage of this and find a reason to move forward.
Run at least something
It is terribly frightening to think about the whole mountain of work that you now need to do, and when we are overwhelmed with such feelings, we often do not even want to start.
My recipe: do something small. Ideally - related to the goal that you found. At least something needs to be done. To set yourself the task - the one and only - to do something very simple. For example, I told myself to write one paragraph of the book I'm working on.
When everything is so easy, it's hard to give up. This is not so annoying and scary. And when you have already started, you feel more motivated. Set another simple task, and then another and another, until you start working at full capacity.
Find a controller
It’s not difficult for me personally to postpone the work, because no one will yell at me and dismiss me if I don’t take it right away. I can lie on the couch for several days, and my world will not collapse. When you have no one to answer to, motivation is even harder to find.
My recipe: ask someone to control you. Tell this person that tomorrow you will send him sketches of what you are working on now, or that you will send him the results of your work every Friday. And ask him to remember you, so that you have an incentive to do this.
It always helps me. I hate letting people down, and this accountability helps me move forward.
In our life, it often happens that motivation disappears somewhere - and not only after a long vacation. These tips will help in other similar cases. Try these four tricks - and as soon as you return to the rhythm, you will feel good. Movement creates movement, as well as happiness.
